(Wake Forest's impressive scoring streak, its No. 16 CFP ranking and whether an 11-1 finish would be enough to put the Demon Deacons into the 12-team playoff.)

Wake Forest has outscored its last four opponents 187-31. That's not a small improvement in form. That's a team making life miserable for everybody standing across the field.

The Demon Deacons are now 7-1 and ranked No. 16 in the first College Football Playoff rankings. Their only defeat came against unbeaten Miami, which currently sits at No. 1. That's hardly an embarrassing loss.

Here's what bothers me about their position. Wake Forest has won five straight games, yet the committee still has it outside the top 12. Part of the problem is its schedule. The Deacons haven't collected the kind of ranked victories that make committee members sit up and take notice.

But winning comfortably matters, too. Scoring 187 points while allowing just 31 over four games suggests a team playing with real confidence.

An 11-1 finish would certainly strengthen their case. However, I suspect the ACC Championship Game could become crucial, particularly if Wake Forest gets another shot at Miami. Beating the top-ranked Hurricanes would be difficult, but it would give the committee a result it couldn't easily ignore.

Would an 11-1 Wake Forest team deserve a playoff place, or should the Deacons have to beat Miami in the ACC Championship Game to prove they belong?
